A Goal Is A Dream With A Deadline

We all have them; dreams that come from an underlying desire or passion but are never taken seriously because for some reason we tell ourselves “this is a dream, not a possibility”. We consciously put the things that we dream for, the things we passionately want in life into a box and tell ourselves, “we can’t have this, but it is nice to imagine what if?”

No, seriously, why the fuck do we accept this as the norm?

You are never going to magically wake up one day and find yourself swimming in a sea of success or the life you dreamed of.

Success, however you define it, takes passion, hard work, planning, endurance, and execution. Instead of thinking how nice it would be, think how nice it will be.

Even though we don’t typically address the concept of mortality in our everyday life, it is a fact. We only have one life so why settle for what’s in front of us and adventure for what is just over the horizon.

Now, let us be clear on something first. There are two categories, dreams and goals. What a dream would sound like is:

With me being at the age of 25, I will train and work tirelessly to get my 5 foot 8, stumpy, t-Rex arm having ass in the NBA. I mean seriously, even though I played all my life I never even made varsity in high school so clearly this is a dream.

What a goal looks like is:

Within the next 12 months, I will be able to build Striven to the level that it will be able to provide me financial stability, allow me to make a positive impact in the lives of others, provide freedom from the stereotypical 9-5 job, and focus on living life to the fullest now, rather than when I retire from a career job.

Most people I have told of these aspirations have wished me good luck, support me, but don’t really see it as a feasible option in life. I know it is but I also know it will be hard. Despite that, the concept is that it is possible. With the correct mindset, work ethic, goal setting, planning, and execution this former “Dream” will become a reality.

This is what we want; we want you to make what most people would consider your “dreams” into reality.

Take a few minutes, write down what it is you want in life, what you’re passionate about, your aspirations, and so forth.

Identify which ones would fit alongside the category of goals and which ones would fit alongside the category of dreams.

Pick one area within your goals category you want to begin working on.

Set a reasonable, yet challenging due date to achieve that goal and when to start working towards that goal.

Plan out the steps and actions you are going to take to work towards and accomplish it.

With a timeline, plan, and desire all in the right place, it is time to execute!

Reflect on this journey, adapt your steps as you move forward as needed, and never set your dreams as something that is not within your reach.

Comment below with what it is you’re going to build in your life, what goals you will accomplish, or goals you are in the process of working yet but have yet to achieve. We love to hear from you all, talk with you, and if we can, put in overtime to help and support you!
